Alphaeus is named as the father of two of Jesus' disciples; Matthew and James.[1] It is thought that there were two men named Alphaeus and that the two disciples were not brothers. There were two other sets of brothers named among the disciples; John and James the sons of Zebedee as well as Peter and Andrew.
