Andrew

Saint Andrew the Apostle by Artus Wolffort

Andrew was one of Jesus' twelve Apostles and the brother of Peter. He was considered one of Jesus' inner circle of four that also included Peter, James, and John. It was Andrew that told Jesus about the boy with the loaves and fish. It was also Andrew, with Philip, who told Jesus about the Greeks who were seeking Him. Tradition has it that Andrew was martyred by crucifixion at the city of Patres.

Calling Edit

Andrew was one of John the Baptist's disciples. One day John looked up and saw Jesus walking by and proclaimed, "Behold, the Lamb of God!"[1] Andrew and another unnamed disciple heard him sa this and followed Jesus. After spending he day with Jesus Andrew left and told his brother Simon that they had found the long awaited messiah. He brought Simon to Jesus where Jesus looked at Simon and said to him, "You are Simon the son of John. You shall be called Cephas" (which means Peter).[2] Later Andrew and Peter were on the shore of the Sea of Galilee. Jesus called out to both of them, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men."[3] Immediately they left their fishing supplies and followed Jesus. Going on from there Jesus called the brothers James and John who were also fishing.
