The Old Testament is the first major division in the Bible and is based primarily upon the Hebrew Bible. It consists of 39 distinct historical, wisdom, and prophetic books ranging in dates from as early as 1300 BC to around 450 BC.

StructureEdit

Originally written in Hebrew, the Old Testament books can be broken down into three sections. The first 17 books consist of narrative writings that tell the story of the people of God from creation through around 450 BC. The next 6 books are that of wisdom and poetry written during this time. The final 16 books are books of prophecy written by God’s prophets to Israel, Judah, and other various people groups.
